ERP for Manufacturers in Saudi Arabia: Odoo Manufacturing, Custom or a Smaller Step

Recipes, production orders, stock, costing and ZATCA invoices in one system, with an honest view of when a smaller tool is enough. We quote by what you need.

A factory needs bills of materials, production orders, stock, purchasing and costs to agree with each other. We build it on Odoo Manufacturing, which documents bills of materials, work centers, shop-floor tablets and costing, or as custom software when your process does not fit. If you are a small workshop, a smaller step may be right, and this page says so.

Devvista builds software and is an official Odoo partner. Send three of your products to our team.

01

Where a factory's numbers stop agreeing

Ask a plant manager what it costs to make one unit and you often get three answers: the one in the pricing sheet, the one from purchasing and the one the accountant calculates at month end. Recipes sit in one workbook, raw-material counts in another, and nobody can say quickly what to buy for next week's orders.

The people we write this for run small and mid-size plants in Saudi Arabia and want products, recipes, production orders, stock, purchasing and invoices to agree. The route is Odoo Manufacturing or custom software, and we name the better fit. Industrial licensing and labour rules are left out because no official source was opened for them.

What the search data says (Semrush Saudi Arabia and Mostaql, 7 November 2026): the Arabic phrases for a factory system returned no volume, which does not prove zero. Public Mostaql requests do include stock systems, mini ERPs and a granite and marble workshop. Many of those buyers are small, so the honest answer is sometimes "begin with less", and that is covered further down.

02

Recipes, work orders and the shop floor

Odoo's Manufacturing documentation is the base for this part. Each item below is named in the Odoo documentation page in its row; some of those pages list sub-topics (multilevel BoMs, FEFO removal) only as links, so they are named as listed.

PieceWhat the documentation saysPage
Bill of materialsLists components and quantities; can carry operations, work instructions, variants, kits and multilevel structures. Operations need the Work Orders setting, and step-by-step instructions need the Quality appBills of materials, Manufacturing
Manufacturing and work ordersWork centers, dependencies between work orders, one-, two- or three-step manufacturing, scrap, backorders, by-productsManufacturing
Shop floorTablets with the work center control panel to run work orders in real time, with time trackingManufacturing
Stock and buyingLots and serials, reordering rules, landed costs, FIFO, LIFO and FEFO removal, RFQs and vendor billsInventory, Purchase
BooksDouble entry, stock valuation by standard price, average cost or FIFO, balance sheet and profit and lossAccounting

How these map to your products, and where a step needs custom work, is what a demo on your own recipes settles. What each does in your case is confirmed in scoping. All pages were opened on 7 November 2026.

03

Costing and the master production schedule

For costing, the documentation says a component's cost is the average of its purchase orders and that a hand-typed value gets overwritten by later orders. Each work center has a cost per hour, and employee hourly cost feeds the real cost of a manufacturing order (manufacturing order costs). A cost report is therefore only as sound as the purchase prices, work-center rates and wages you keep current.

The master production schedule suggests replenishment against a demand forecast and is meant for long lead times or seasonal demand. By the documentation's own words it does not raise purchase or manufacturing orders, and reordering rules should not be applied to products it plans (master production schedule). A plant with short lead times can leave it off at first.

04

Sending a step to an outside workshop

Coating, cutting and finishing are often done by another shop. In the basic subcontracting flow the BoM type is set to Subcontracting, the workshop is named on it, and confirming the purchase order creates the receipt for the finished product; the workshop sources the components in that flow (subcontracting). The Manufacturing page also lists resupply and drop-ship versions for cases where you send the material yourself. Who owns the material decides which one applies.

05

Invoices that ZATCA accepts

Wave 25 applies to a taxpayer whose VAT-subject revenue passed SAR 187,500 in any of 2022 to 2025, per ZATCA's 24 July 2026 notice, and integration is due by 1 February 2027 (ZATCA notice). Test your numbers with our Wave 25 checker.

In Odoo's Saudi localisation, tax invoices and their notes have to be in Arabic, and an invoice created in simulation mode has no legal validity (Saudi Arabia localisation). Our pages on Odoo e-invoicing and accounting software go through the onboarding steps.

06

Start smaller: when an Odoo project is more than you need

Not every workshop needs an ERP. Three honest options:

  • Spreadsheet plus a ready inventory or accounting product. Reasonable for a few products, simple recipes and one site where counts and invoices hurt most. It stops working once recipe levels and routing drive your decisions. Confirm you can export your data; no vendor has been checked by us.
  • Odoo Manufacturing. Right when several products with recipes, work centers, buying and stock should share a database with the books. Plan real time for tidy item lists, recipes and opening stock (Odoo implementation).
  • Custom software. Right for a process Odoo models badly, a scale or machine link, or an existing system you want to extend (custom software).

If most of your sales go through distributors, read wholesale and distribution, and for deliveries logistics software.

07

Moving from Excel to a working plant system

Devvista is a software company and an official Odoo partner. Odoo projects are under NDA, so none are shown, and no Saudi factory clients are listed. The sequence we follow:

  • Bring three typical products with recipes and routing to the first call; the written scope is built on them.
  • Clean the item list and opening stock in a staging copy, then load them and review the mismatch list together.
  • A weekly demo on your own products, then your team tests on staging.
  • Hand over the configuration and code at go-live.

If you already run Odoo and need extra hands, see Odoo developers for Saudi companies and, in English, the global Odoo developer page.

08

What moves the price of a factory project

Quotes follow your needs and there are no fixed bundles. What you tell us in scoping changes the size of the work:

What you tell usEffect on scope
How many products and recipe levelsEach recipe is entered, reviewed and costed
Whether you use routing and tabletsOperations, durations and training are added
How tidy the Excel lists areDuplicates and missing units take cleaning time
Outside workshopsMaterial ownership decides the flow
Scales, machines or a store to connectEach link is separate work
Arabic labels, delivery notes and invoicesRight-to-left layouts need design and testing

Developers on our team bill hourly between $10 and $100 depending on type and level, and a whole project can be fixed anywhere from $500 to $100,000, in US dollars. As an example, loading and checking recipes for 25 hours at $40 an hour comes to $1,000, an estimate and not a quote.

Odoo Manufacturing documents bills of materials, work centers, tablets on the shop floor, costing and planning, with Inventory, Purchase and Accounting in the same database. A demo on your products shows where it fits and where it does not.

It can be. With a few simple products and one site, a spreadsheet and a ready stock tool may carry you for now, and we will say so once we hear your case.

Per the documentation: average purchase cost for components, a cost per hour for each work center, and employee hourly cost for the real cost of an order. Stale prices or rates give a wrong result.

Probably not at the start. It targets long lead times and seasonal demand, and it does not raise orders by itself.

Yes. The basic flow uses a subcontracting BoM and a purchase order that creates the receipt; resupply and drop-ship versions cover sending your own material.

Yes. Items, recipes and opening stock go through a cleaning pass into a staging copy, and you decide on every mismatch before go-live.

Odoo's Saudi localisation requires Arabic tax invoices and treats simulation invoices as not valid. For Wave 25 taxpayers the date is 1 February 2027 at the latest, and your own ZATCA notice is what counts.

It depends on the number of products, recipes and work centers. Our hourly range is $10 to $100 and fixed projects run $500 to $100,000, in US dollars; the quote follows scoping.

None are listed here, and Odoo work is covered by NDA. You can judge the method instead: a written scope on your products, a staging copy and weekly demos. Tell us your plant and we will say if we fit.
