What Is Odoo Implementation?

Installing Odoo takes an afternoon. Implementing it so your team trusts the numbers takes a plan.

Odoo implementation is the work of turning Odoo's apps into the system your company runs on. In practice it covers six jobs:

  • Choosing the apps, edition and hosting you actually need
  • Configuring them to match your real workflows
  • Moving your data in from QuickBooks, NetSuite, an older ERP or spreadsheets
  • Connecting the other tools Odoo has to talk to
  • Building custom modules where the standard apps stop
  • Training your people so they use it from day one

Odoo is developed by Odoo SA in Belgium. It started life as TinyERP, became OpenERP, was renamed Odoo in 2014, and is now one of the most widely used open-source ERP platforms in the world. The current major release is Odoo 19.

Accounting, inventory, sales, purchasing, manufacturing, CRM, ecommerce, point of sale, HR and projects all share one database. An order placed on your website can reserve stock, trigger a purchase, create an invoice and update your reports without anyone retyping it.

That flexibility is also why so many Odoo projects stall. With dozens of apps and thousands of settings, a partner who configures everything the software allows, instead of what your business needs, can leave you with a system slower than the spreadsheets it replaced.

We start from your operations, not the feature list. Standard Odoo first, configuration second, Studio third, and custom code only when nothing else will work. That order keeps your licensing simple, keeps your system upgradeable, and keeps your total cost down. If you are still weighing up the budget, our guide to Odoo pricing and implementation cost breaks down every line item.

Not sure whether Odoo fits your business at all? We will tell you honestly in the first call.

Odoo Implementation & Development Services

One team handles the whole project, from the first process workshop to the custom code and the support tickets after launch.

01

Odoo Consulting Services & Fit-Gap Analysis

We document how orders, inventory, production, billing and approvals move through your company today, then compare each step against standard Odoo. Every requirement is marked as standard, configuration, Studio or custom development. You get a written scope, a recommended edition and hosting option, and a fixed estimate before the build starts. This Odoo ERP consulting phase is led by an Odoo functional consultant, with an Odoo technical consultant reviewing anything that will need code.

Odoo Development & Custom Modules

As an Odoo development company, we build custom Odoo modules for workflows the standard apps do not cover: rental and subscription logic, multi-step approvals, commissions, quality checks, job costing or a complete industry-specific process. Modules are written in Python on Odoo's ORM, with their own views, access rules and automated tests, and they extend Odoo through inheritance instead of editing core code, so they survive version upgrades. Before building, we check the Odoo Apps Store and the Odoo Community Association (OCA) for a maintained module that already solves the problem.

05

Odoo Customization Services

Odoo ERP customization for the details that make your process yours: extra fields, changed forms and views, computed values, automated actions, QWeb invoice and quote layouts, and dashboards, using Odoo Studio where that is enough and code where it is not.

06

Odoo Integration Services

As your Odoo integrator, we connect Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento, Amazon, shipping carriers, Stripe, EDI, HubSpot, Salesforce, VoIP, WhatsApp, bank feeds and in-house systems through XML-RPC, JSON-RPC, REST and webhooks, with logging, retries and error alerts.

Odoo Support Services & Upgrades

Ongoing fixes, new workflows and reports, plus an Odoo upgrade service and Odoo migration from older versions to Odoo 19: database upgrade, porting and testing every custom module, and a trial upgrade before your team switches over.

Support

One Odoo Partner From Consulting to Code

Many companies buy Odoo services from two or three vendors: an Odoo implementation company for the rollout, an Odoo development company for custom code, and someone else for support. Every handover loses context. We cover all of it, so the people who scope your project are the people who build and support it.

  • Odoo ERP consulting services: fit-gap analysis and process design, led by an Odoo ERP consultant with accounting and operations experience.
  • Odoo ERP implementation services: configuration, data migration, training and go-live.
  • Odoo ERP development services: custom modules, Odoo ERP software development for industry-specific workflows, and Odoo app development services for portals and mobile apps.
  • Odoo ERP customization services: Studio changes and code-level customization, written so your system stays upgradeable.
  • Odoo ERP integration: our Odoo integration consultants connect ecommerce, shipping, payments, EDI and CRM systems.
  • Odoo ERP support: fixes, new reports and version upgrades after launch.

If you are comparing Odoo implementation partners, ask each one who writes the custom code and who answers support tickets after go-live. With us, our Odoo implementation services, custom development services and support come from the same team.

Map First.
Configure Second.

Our Odoo implementation methodology is built to avoid the two classic Odoo failures: a system nobody uses, and a system so customized it can never be upgraded. Here is the Odoo implementation process step by step.

01
Weeks 1–2

Discovery Workshops

We interview the people who do the work: sales, purchasing, warehouse, production, finance. We collect real documents such as invoices, pick lists and price sheets, and map each process end to end, including the exceptions that spreadsheets currently hide.

02
Weeks 2–3

Fit-Gap & Scope

Each requirement is matched to standard Odoo, configuration, Studio or custom code. You sign off on a scope document, a hosting decision (Odoo Online, Odoo.sh or your own server) and a phased plan. Nothing gets built that you have not agreed to.

03
Build Phase

Configuration & Development

We configure Odoo in a staging database, build custom modules and integrations, and show working features every one to two weeks. Your key users test as we go, so problems surface while they are still cheap to fix.

04
Before Cutover

Migration Rehearsal

We load your real data into a copy of the new system at least once before go-live. Finance compares trial balances, stock values and open receivables against your old system until the numbers match.

05
Go-Live

Training & Cutover

Each role gets training on the exact screens it will use. We pick a cutover date around your accounting periods and busy seasons, run the final migration, and stay on call through the first weeks of live transactions.

06
After Launch

Hypercare & Support

Once the team has a few months of real use, the second round of requests arrives: new reports, extra automations, another warehouse. We handle those as an ongoing support relationship, and we plan your next version upgrade before it becomes urgent.

What Odoo Implementation Costs

Odoo has two separate costs: the license you pay Odoo per user, and the implementation you pay a partner. License pricing depends on your country, your plan (Standard or Custom) and whether you are in the first-year promotional period, so check Odoo's pricing page for your region. The Custom plan is the one that includes Studio, multi-company and external API access, which most growing companies need.

For implementation, these are typical market ranges, not a quote:

  • Starter rollout, about $5,000 to $20,000. Two to four apps such as CRM, Sales, Invoicing and Inventory for a small team, standard configuration, simple data import, basic training.
  • Mid-size ERP rollout, about $20,000 to $75,000. Accounting, inventory, purchasing, sales and often manufacturing for 10 to 50 users, data migration from an existing system, two or three integrations, a handful of custom modules and role-based training.
  • Complex rollout, $75,000 and up. Multiple companies or currencies, several warehouses, heavy manufacturing, EDI, many integrations or extensive custom development.

What moves the number most is not user count. It is the quality of your current data, how many systems Odoo has to connect to, and how much of your process truly cannot run on standard Odoo. The fit-gap analysis exists to answer exactly that, which is why our estimate comes after it, not before.

Odoo Implementation in the USA

We implement Odoo for US companies, and a US rollout has details a generic template misses. Odoo's US accounting localization covers the US chart of accounts, check printing and NACHA files for ACH vendor payments, and Odoo connects to Avalara AvaTax so sales tax is calculated by state and ZIP code instead of a flat rate. We set these up as part of the project, together with multi-state warehouses, US shipping carriers and migration from QuickBooks, the most common starting point for growing US companies.

If you are searching for an Odoo partner in the USA, look for one that has configured US payroll providers, sales tax and bank feeds before, because those are the areas where a first-time setup costs you during your first month-end close.

Odoo Success Pack or an Odoo Partner?

Odoo sells its own implementation hours as Success Packs, mainly aimed at companies with fewer than 50 employees. An Odoo Success Pack works well for a standard setup with little customization: Odoo's consultants guide you through configuration remotely and your team does much of the data work.

A partner makes more sense when you need data migration from another ERP, integrations, custom modules or someone accountable for the whole project end to end. It is also common to start with a Success Pack and bring in a partner once requirements outgrow standard Odoo.

Why Choose Us as Your
Odoo Partner?

Most Odoo partners are either strong functional consultants or strong developers. Your project needs both in the same room.

01
Official Odoo Partner With a Full Software Team Behind It

Devvista is a software development company first. Our Odoo consultants work next to Python, front-end and integration engineers who also build custom software, so a requirement that needs code does not get handed to a subcontractor or quietly dropped from scope. When you compare an Odoo implementer or Odoo consultancy, ask who will write the custom modules. With us, it is the same team.

02
Standard Odoo First, Custom Code Last

Every custom module adds testing and upgrade work for the life of your system. We push hard to solve requirements with standard features and configuration, and when we do write code, it lives in clean, separate modules that can move to the next Odoo version without a rewrite.

03
We Build Whole Systems on Odoo

Some clients need a few apps switched on. Others need Odoo to become their entire operating system: custom approval chains, industry-specific workflows, customer portals and integrations with every tool they use. We do both, and we scope each one honestly.

04
Your Data and Your Workflows Stay Confidential

Our Odoo clients trust us with their pricing, margins and supplier terms, and most of that work is under NDA. That is why you will not find client screenshots on this page, and why your project will get the same discretion.

05
Honest Answers About Fit

If NetSuite, a lighter accounting tool or a custom CRM would serve you better than Odoo, we will say so on the first call. A partner that recommends Odoo for everything is not doing fit analysis.

Straight
Answers.

The questions companies ask us most before starting an Odoo implementation.

Yes. Devvista is an official Odoo partner. We implement Odoo Enterprise and Odoo Community, build custom Odoo modules, and handle integrations, data migration, training and post-launch support under one team.

Implementation is priced separately from Odoo licenses. As a typical market range, a small rollout of two to four apps with light configuration runs about $5,000 to $20,000. A multi-department rollout for 10 to 50 users with data migration and a few integrations usually lands between $20,000 and $75,000. Multi-company, manufacturing-heavy or highly customized projects can exceed $75,000. We give a fixed-scope estimate after the fit-gap analysis.

A focused rollout of a few apps for a small team usually takes four to eight weeks. A full ERP rollout covering accounting, inventory, sales, purchasing and manufacturing for a mid-size company typically takes three to six months. The biggest variables are data quality, the number of integrations and how quickly your team can make process decisions.

Community is free and open source but leaves out apps and features such as full accounting, Studio, the mobile apps and Odoo support. Enterprise adds those and is billed per user. Companies that need complete accounting, payroll or barcode operations usually end up on Enterprise. Very custom setups with an in-house technical team can run well on Community. We walk through your requirements and recommend one before any work starts.

Yes. We migrate customers, vendors, products, open orders, inventory balances, chart of accounts and opening balances from accounting systems, older ERPs and spreadsheets. Data is cleaned and mapped before import, loaded into a test database first, and reconciled with your finance team before go-live.

Odoo Online is the simplest option and is managed by Odoo, but it does not allow custom code modules. Odoo.sh is Odoo's cloud platform that supports custom modules with staging branches. On-premise or a private cloud server gives the most control but makes you responsible for updates, backups and security. If your project needs custom modules, Odoo.sh or a private server is usually the right fit.

Yes. When configuration and Studio cannot cover a requirement, our developers build custom modules in Python with Odoo's ORM, XML views and OWL front-end components. We keep custom code in separate modules so your system stays upgradeable when new Odoo versions are released.

Yes. Odoo exposes an external API (XML-RPC and JSON-RPC), and many connectors already exist for ecommerce, shipping, payment and marketplace platforms. Where a reliable connector does not exist, we build the integration. Note that external API access requires the Odoo Custom plan or a self-hosted setup.

Yes. After go-live we offer ongoing support for fixes, new workflows, reporting and user questions, plus version upgrades. Upgrades include migrating your data and testing every custom module against the new Odoo version before your team switches over.

Most of our Odoo work is covered by client NDAs, so we do not publish client names or screenshots of their systems. On a discovery call we can walk you through anonymized examples of workflows we have built, explain how we approached similar requirements, and answer detailed technical questions about your setup.

Small changes such as a custom report, a few fields or one automation typically cost a few hundred to a few thousand dollars. A custom module with its own models, views, security rules and tests usually runs $3,000 to $15,000. Large builds such as a customer portal, a complex integration or an industry-specific workflow can reach $15,000 to $60,000 or more.

Every Odoo version changes some internal APIs, so custom modules always need porting and testing during an upgrade. We keep that predictable by extending standard Odoo through inheritance instead of editing core code, keeping modules in Git with automated tests, and documenting them.

Yes. We implement Odoo for US companies and configure Odoo's US accounting localization, Avalara AvaTax for state and local sales tax, ACH vendor payments through NACHA files, check printing, US shipping carriers and bank feeds, and we migrate data from QuickBooks and other US accounting systems.

Yes. Rescue projects usually start with an audit of the database, custom modules and open issues. We tell you what is worth keeping, what needs to be rebuilt, and what it will take to get to a stable go-live, before you commit to anything further.
