For an eight-user workshop on one site, our worked example puts the first year of an Odoo ERP project at about £16,500 to £18,600 at an illustrative $40 an hour. Every hour, rate and price in it is an assumption or estimate you can change, and none comes from a client. Devvista is a software development and growth agency that scopes and implements Odoo ERP for small UK manufacturers, working remotely.

Below: published prices and their limits, the line items, a timeline, what moves the number, and Made Smarter.

What the published figures say, and why they differ

Public ERP prices show a licence per user. They rarely show the work of setting up bills of materials, loading stock and training a workshop. Here is what each source states, with its limits.

The directory's Odoo figure of $24.90 does not match Odoo's own page, so use the vendor's page for the licence and the directory only as a rough guide to the total. Our Odoo pricing guide explains the licence plans in more depth.

Worked example: an eight-user workshop, line by line

Everything in this section is an assumption or an estimate, not a quote and not a client result. Change the numbers to match your firm.

  • The firm (assumption): 15 staff, one site, Xero as the ledger, spreadsheets for stock and bills of materials.
  • The scope (assumption): Odoo Manufacturing, Inventory, Purchase, Sales and Accounting for eight users, with three shop floor stations.
  • The hourly rate (illustrative): Devvista prices either as a fixed price from $500 to $100,000 depending on complexity, or hourly from $10 to $100 depending on the developer's level and the type of work. This example uses one illustrative rate of $40 per hour. Converted at about 1 pound to 1.337 dollars, which is the euro-to-dollar (1.1193) and euro-to-pound (0.83728) reference rates the European Central Bank published for 23 October 2026 (ECB), that is about £29.92 an hour. Exchange rates move, so treat the pound figures as illustrative, and a fixed-price quote depends on scope.
  • The licence (estimate): eight users on the Custom plan, chosen for Studio and the external API, at the two dollar figures above, converted at the same rate.

Contingency at 15% (assumption)£2,152£2,426
Estimated first-year total£16,499£18,596

Developer time is the same in both columns because it uses the single $40 rate; the columns differ only in licence, hardware and contingency. In dollars the total is roughly $22,000 to $25,000, inside the directory's $10K to $80K range, though the directory does not say what that range covers. Developer level, data quality and scope change the hours, so a real quote can sit well away from this. Your own team's time is not included.

How long it takes: a realistic timeline for the same workshop

This is a planning estimate for the example above, about 18 weeks end to end. The directory reports a median of 6 months to first live entity across its 82 case studies, and 1 to 4 months for Odoo, so treat our figure as typical for a small single-site project and not a guarantee.

WeeksPhaseWhat has to be true to move on
1 to 3Discovery and fit-gapWritten scope and a fixed estimate you have signed off
3 to 9Configuration and first productsOne product runs end to end in a test database
8 to 12Data migrationStock counted, bills of materials loaded, opening balances agreed with your accountant
11 to 14Training and testingOperators have run real orders in the test system
14 to 17Parallel runOne full cycle reconciled against the old system
18Go-live at a period startOld system set to read-only

Stock counts are the usual cause of slippage. Move the counting week away from busy deliveries rather than load numbers you do not trust.

What moves the price up or down

  • Number of products and levels of bill of materials. Fifty simple products load quickly. Five hundred with sub-assemblies and variants do not.
  • Quality of your current data. Duplicated suppliers and inconsistent units add migration hours. The Odoo documentation notes that imports cannot be undone and recommends a test run first, so clean data first.
  • Custom work. Each integration, portal or special report is priced on its own. Our customisation guide sets out when it pays.
  • Plan and hosting. On the pricing page the Standard plan is hosted on Odoo Online, while the Custom plan adds Studio, multi-company and the external API and allows Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting, with Odoo.sh costs not included.
  • Whether the ledger moves. Keeping Xero and loading only operations cuts hours. Moving accounting adds opening balances and VAT set-up.
  • Users and shop floor stations. They change licence cost, training and hardware.
  • Customer requirements. If a customer demands batch records or specific audit reports, expect testing time.

Moving from Xero, Sage or QuickBooks: where the money goes

Most of the cost is deciding what not to move. Opening balances at the start of a VAT period are cheap, because Odoo's accounting settings allow you to import them, and its UK localisation provides a chart of accounts ready for VAT100 and CT600 reporting and a Making Tax Digital VAT module. Moving years of transaction history is expensive and rarely needed, because your accountant can keep the old package read-only.

Products, customers and suppliers can be loaded from spreadsheets using Odoo's import templates, and that is where cleaning pays back. If your books are in QuickBooks Desktop, read our guide to moving from QuickBooks Desktop to Odoo. If you plan to keep Xero or Sage and run only operations in Odoo, budget for the link between them and ask the partner to show it working, since we have not verified a standard connector.

Made Smarter explained honestly: a possible contribution, not a plan

Made Smarter Adoption is a support programme for small and medium manufacturers in England. On its East of England page, eligible businesses can access grant funding of up to £20,000, covering up to 50% of project costs, after developing a tailored digital roadmap, and funding can contribute to equipment, software or specialist services.

Three limits matter for an ERP buyer.

  • ERP is not confirmed. That page does not mention ERP, and neither do the programme's main adoption page or the regional offers we opened, so eligibility of ERP software or implementation is unconfirmed.
  • Offers vary by region. Most describe grants for hardware and software, the South East wording mentions hardware only, and support depends on the postcode of your main manufacturing site.
  • Places are limited. The East of England page says only 10% of roadmaps remain for 2026-27. We found no GOV.UK page setting out the terms.

The arithmetic is simple. A grant of up to 50% on our £16,499 low case is at most about £8,250. The £20,000 cap only binds on projects above £40,000. Ask your regional delivery partner, in writing, whether ERP software and implementation count, and whether you must be approved before committing spend. Budget as if the grant will not come.

Seven questions that make an ERP quote comparable

  1. Ask for hours by phase, so you can see what discovery, migration and training each cost.
  2. Ask what is excluded: hosting, hardware, training days, support after go-live.
  3. Ask which licence plan is assumed and why.
  4. Ask when the fixed estimate is given. Ours follows the fit-gap review described on the Odoo implementation page.
  5. Ask how changes are priced once the scope is signed.
  6. Ask who owns custom code. For custom software builds, our custom software page says you own the source code on completion and final payment.
  7. Ask for a three-year total using renewal prices, not first-year discounts.

How to tell whether the spend paid back, and mistakes that inflate it

Break-even is arithmetic you can do yourself. Suppose, as an assumption, that re-keying orders and hunting for stock costs 15 hours a week across the firm at a loaded £15 an hour. That is £11,700 a year. If the system removes two thirds of it, the saving is £7,800 a year and a £16,000 project pays back in a little over two years, before counting better quotes. Replace each number with your own.

  • Underestimating data clean-up, which is the commonest overrun.
  • Buying the top plan "just in case" and paying for apps nobody opens.
  • Adding custom features before the standard flow has run once.
  • Treating the grant as certain and committing spend before it is approved.

Is this the right cost route for you?

Good fit: a manufacturer with 10 to 150 staff, one or two sites, and a budget in the low tens of thousands of pounds. Not a fit: firms needing an on-site team, a large multi-site rollout with formal tender rules, or only a licence with no help setting it up, where Odoo's own Success Packs may suit.

Devvista is a software development and growth agency that scopes and implements Odoo ERP projects for small UK manufacturers remotely, with a fixed-scope estimate agreed after a fit-gap review. We have no UK office, address or phone, and our Odoo projects are under NDA, so ask for an anonymised walkthrough on a call. Read what the system must do on the ERP for manufacturing page, hire Odoo developers for ongoing work, or go back to the UK hub.

Straight
Answers.

In our worked example, an eight-user, single-site Odoo project comes to about £16,500 to £18,600 in the first year at an illustrative $40 per hour, including implementation, licence, hardware and a 15% contingency. Every figure is an assumption, and fixed-price quotes depend on scope and data quality. A real number needs a fit-gap review of your products and process.

The Odoo pricing page we opened showed US dollars only. Standard was US$ 8.95 and US$ 11.20 per user per month and Custom US$ 16.40 and US$ 20.90. Any pound figure is a conversion, so confirm the price at checkout.

Our estimate for a single-site, eight-user project is about 18 weeks, from discovery to go-live at a period start. ERP Research reports 1 to 4 months for Odoo and a median of 6 months across 82 case studies of all ERPs. The slowest part is usually stock counting and data clean-up.

The licence is the fixed part: on our assumptions about £98 to £125 a month for eight Custom users. Support and further development are separate and depend on the agreement, so ask for them in writing. We have not priced them here.

It might, but we cannot say. The East of England page offers up to £20,000 at up to 50% of project costs after a roadmap, and does not mention ERP. Ask your regional delivery partner in writing before counting on it.

Odoo's licence is lower per user on the published prices, while Business Central's Premium plan at £84.60 per user adds manufacturing and is sold through partners. Implementation can outweigh the licence in either case, so compare the three-year total from two real quotes.

Not once the scope is agreed. Devvista prices as a fixed price from $500 to $100,000 depending on complexity, or hourly from $10 to $100 by developer level. The hours here use an illustrative $40 per hour, and the buyer receives a fixed-scope estimate after the fit-gap review. Changes after sign-off are priced separately, which is worth confirming with any partner.

Yes. A common split is manufacturing, stock and purchasing first, then accounting at the next VAT period. Phasing spreads cash out but adds a period when two systems run side by side.

Not always. Per the pricing page, Custom adds Studio, multi-company and the external API and allows Odoo.sh or on-premise hosting, while Standard is hosted on Odoo Online. If you have no integrations or custom fields planned, ask whether Standard is enough.
