In collaboration with Automatenhande, Devvista was entrusted with designing a comprehensive front-end for a cloud-based dashboard tailored to the intricate requirements of their vending machine network. The overarching goal of this project was to create a user-friendly, data-driven interface that empowers Automatenhande to seamlessly monitor and manage stock levels, optimize operational efficiency, and reduce downtime. By creating an innovative and efficient design, Devvista aimed to transform the conventional vending machine experience through intelligent automation, real-time telemetry, and streamlined accessibility. Key Design Objectives Real-Time Stock Monitoring and Tracking: The dashboard provides Automatenhande with detailed, real-time insights into stock levels across their vending machine fleet. Understanding the operational requirements, we designed this feature to track item removal down to individual pieces, allowing for precise inventory management. When employees retrieve products, whether in single units or multipacks, the system instantly reflects these changes, ensuring that stock data remains accurate. This granular tracking capability helps Automatenhande optimize stock replenishment schedules and enhances their ability to forecast future needs. Telemetry and Machine Health Monitoring: Integrating a telemetry system was a crucial aspect of the design. Our front-end layout for the dashboard visually represents machine status and health indicators, providing automated alerts for low stock levels, machine errors, and other operational issues. This proactive approach allows Automatenhande’s team to address potential problems before they escalate, reducing both downtime and maintenance costs. The telemetry system's data visualization is designed with clarity in mind, so team members can easily interpret machine health indicators and quickly act on any necessary maintenance or troubleshooting. Customizable Notification System: We understood the importance of timely information for efficient operations. The design incorporates a notification system that can be customized according to priority levels, enabling Automatenhande to receive updates on stock depletion, machine malfunctions, or other critical alerts. By ensuring notifications are clearly visible and accessible on the dashboard, the interface enhances operational responsiveness. This feature is particularly valuable for handling high-traffic locations where stock tends to deplete quickly. Cross-Platform Compatibility: Recognizing the diverse operating environments, Devvista ensured that the dashboard design could accommodate both Android and Windows platforms, offering flexibility in hardware selection. Our responsive design approach means that team members can access and interact with the dashboard from various devices without sacrificing functionality or usability, whether on mobile tablets or desktop systems. Machine Communication Protocol Integration (MDB/RS232): A significant technical challenge involved designing an interface that could communicate seamlessly with vending machines using MDB/RS232 protocols. By integrating this functionality within the dashboard, we enabled a reliable and secure data exchange between the vending machines and the cloud system. This integration ensures that data from the machines, such as sales transactions and stock adjustments, is accurately transmitted and displayed in real time, enhancing the dashboard’s reliability and data integrity.
